ATD Dallas Career Development SIG
Hosted by Laurie Barnett

July 25, 2022 6:30-8:00pm
Facilitator: Gregory Tall
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Are you always hearing voices in your head? A voice that tells you that new client is going to be challenging to work with? A voice that tells you that certain job candidate is “a good fit” for the role? A voice that tells you that particular manager just isn’t a natural leader?
If so, don’t worry…you’re not going crazy! You’re just experiencing the friendly and well-intentioned voice of your unconscious bias. We all have it, it’s always talking, and it usually makes a pretty compelling argument. This fast-moving, interactive session will teach you what unconscious bias is, how it impacts decision-making in the workplace, and how accurate (or inaccurate) our biases are. You’ll leave with some actionable takeaways on how to increase your own culture competence and be an effective workplace ally for an inclusive and equitable culture.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Recognize unconscious bias and how it affects business decision-making.
- Understand the value of cultural competence and how to continually build it
- Reflect on how your allyship can build an equitable and inclusive culture and organization

Along the way, Gregory spent a lot of time coaching and advising managers at all levels, mentoring emerging leaders, and building leadership development programs. During his tenure as Director of Talent Acquisition & Professional Development, the company was recognized by Energage for three consecutive years as a “Top Workplace” in Chicago.
Next, Gregory served as Director of Talent Development at a Fortune “100 Best Companies to Work For” company where he oversaw design, development, and implementation of leadership development and learning programs; launched an initiative that delivered over 80 annual hours of professional development per employee; and coached employees through the creation of career development plans.
Gregory holds an M.B.A. from Roosevelt University, a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has earned the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.
