Gamification

Gamification is an emerging tool similar to a video game but uses more sophisticated technology to simulate critical environments such as found in medical care. Gamification creates scenarios that employees will encounter on the job, and helps employees prepare to work more efficiently in a team situation. Participants control and interact with avatars to master possible conflicts.
Baylor Health Care Systems, UT Dallas and UT Arlington are currently developing a gamification program for helping clinicians understand the best ways to communicate effectively. In this presentation you will learn:
  • What is gamification?
  • What kind of challenges fit well into the gamification mode
  • Physician/Nurse communication paradigm
  • Curriculum
  • The gaming solution
  • Compelling opportunities going forward.
The presenters for this program are Dr. Susan Houston, Director of Nursing Research at Baylor Hospital and Dr. Marjorie Zielke, Assistant Professor of Arts and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas.

Parking on the UTD campus is limited. If you arrive on campus between 4:00 and 4:30, you should not have any trouble finding a parking space. As it gets closer to 5:00, students will begin to arrive and finding parking may be a bit more difficult. If you register in advance of the meeting, we will provide you with a parking pass for designated lots. In addition, there is paid parking (using a central metering system) in the two lots that surround the Jindal School of Business. It should only cost you a couple of dollars if you choose that option. Please note, if you do not pay to park or use a parking pass, you will mostly likely be ticketed by campus police.
